Maharashtra: National Action Plan on Climate Change and Human Health

Rajesh Tope, Health minister, Maharashtra headed the first meeting of the governing body and task force established as a part of the National Action Plan on Climate Change and Human Health in Pune. The meeting was also attended by several senior officials from the public health department, IMD, Maharashtra pollution control board, groundwater survey, development agency, disaster management, and scientists from the National Institute of Virology.

Dr. Pradeep Awate, state surveillance officer stated that the governing body and task force will consider all climate change parameters to propose a suitable public health framework and regulations. He added that these departments will work in conjunction with the health department to evaluate the effects of climate change on disease. 

The state government is already working on plans to make health facilities more buoyant to the changes in climate with key tools and interventions in terms of climate-related shocks and stress.
